Take a Mental Health Day

This is a huge problem that a lot of people have. Whether you work from home, or work outside the home, chances are great that you may need a break from your schedule. Some call it a personal day, while others call it a mental health day. Whatever way you may call it, it should be your day, the day you can spend embracing yourself and no one else.

Does it sound too good to be true? That’s because we have a tendency to cling to our responsibilities with a death grip. Somehow, many of us have decided that the world would stop spinning if we dropped out of it for a few hours. Try taking a one day break, and when no catastrophe ensues, you’ll see just how valuable a personal day can be.

Make a day for you

Make certain that everyone knows you’re taking this day. Request it off from work, get a babysitter for the kids and make alternative arrangements for meals. This is just one day. You can do it, and your family can function without you for a few hours.

Leave the phone home

If you are like me, you probably are always checking that phone of yours. For your own sake, leave the phone home. Yes, some clients may get back to you, or their other things that need to be done. However, they will be there tomorrow. You don’t need to worry about them today. All you need to do is worry about yourself.

Plan your day

Now this plan can be simple if you choose, or elaborate, if you so choose. However, the main thing to take away from this is do what you want. Do something that you want to do that will being you happiness. If you are racking your brain for some suggestions, here are a few:

Lay on the couch and binge watch some television. Get take out, snacks, and other food that you normally don’t eat on a daily basis.

Call up a friend and see if they want to see a movie, go shopping, or even have a nice lunch. It is something you normally won’t do, but it will be nice to have some human interaction.

Have a spa day. Grab an appointment at your local spa for a massage, facial, or just a mani-pedi. Doesn’t matter what you choose as long as you are happy.

By taking a mental health day, you are rediscovering your self-worth. Not only that, but you are taking all the stress you have built up over time and letting it go. Everyone needs a day to relax, unwind, and be themselves. Always plan for a day to do what makes you happy without having work and stress get in the way.

How to Achieve a Positive Mental Attitude

I know, I know, you come to this blog to learn about SEO, but if you read our FAQ’s you will learn that we love to write on other topics too. Well, in my eyes, these topics can also tie into SEO and content writing.

Today, we will be talking about a positive mental attitude. Having a positive mental attitude will help you achieve many goals throughout your life; it will make your home and work live a happier environment both for you and your family. Those who keep with their positive mental attitude, no matter how hard life gets, you will notice you succeed a lot more than those who have a very negative mental attitude. However, I will say this, finding and keeping your positive mental attitude can be extremely difficult without the proper knowledge. None the less, these five tips will help you.

Embrace life

I know, I know, it is always easier said than done. Well, the moment you decide to embrace life along with everything that is included, achieving your positive mental attitude will be a lot easier. It helps that you understand that your life will always have ups and downs, which you cannot always change, but in the end it will make you a stronger person.

Stay cool, calm and collected

I can easily guarantee that half of your parents told us to stay cool, calm, and collected at least once in our life. The emotions you feel when you are angry, upset, and mad can negatively impact our positive mental attitude. Of course, there is nothing wrong with letting out our emotions, but you have to keep them in check. You have to understand and take full responsibility for your own actions.

Love yourself

I know this is a heard one for me to do. Everyone gets annoyed, upset, and mad over the things you do, the way you look, and the choices you made throughout life. However, loving yourself will bring you one step closer to gaining a complete positive mental attitude. Loving yourself will allow you to be in a much happier place, not to mention, you will be much more confident and reflect a positive attitude no matter what situation may arise.

Keep your work at work

This can be a tough one if you work at home like myself. You need to keep work during your work designated hours. That means, no checking work email, no bringing work home, and once work is done forget about it. I know the feeling all too well because sometimes you feel as if work never ends, but it truly does. The moment you can break away from work, will be the moment you will feel much better.

Relaxation techniques

Relaxation techniques are perfect for you when trying to achieve a positive mental attitude. You can get yourself into yoga, pilates, hypnotherapy, and meditation. Just by joining a group or even doing it by yourself will help you feel much more relaxed. I recommend doing this after a stressful day, or before you head off to work.

There are many more different ways that you can gain a positive mental attitude; however, some ways will be easier to do than others. You just have to learn to take your negativity out of your life.

Happiness: Focus on the present

The topic of happiness seems to come up in a lot of conversations today. It doesn’t matter what the subject is at hand because in the end, it leads to happiness. The reason behind all of this is, is everyone’s goal is to be happy.

It seems like when people talk about finding true happiness, they seem to believe happiness will somehow, someway walk into their life. Happiness doesn’t wait on us. As a matter of fact, happiness isn’t an object or a destination. Now you are probably asking yourself what is true happiness?

Well, it seems like some people speak of happiness like it is a choice. However, in a sense this is true. You are the only one that can make you happy.  It is completely your choice if you choose to be happy, or not.  Nonetheless, building a habit of choosing to reminisce on the good things in life is an excellent way to strengthen your positive feelings.

On the other hand, some people speak of happiness as a state that occurs when they are doing the things they enjoy and love. You can use this approach to happiness; there is no issue with that because it brings the good things in your life as a positive action.

Therefore, there is one vital thing that both of these approaches share: they both concentrate on your mind during the present time.

I know being in the present is not always easy, but that is where the happiness will come from. We all have our own demons we are fighting, but you cannot live in the past or future.  The past may have some awesome memories, but how can they help you now? Not to mention, the future, may look dreadful, if you are in a sticky situation, but does that stop you from being happy?

Your imagination is a powerful tool. Your mind comes up with an infinite number of possibilities of where we should be, where we need to be, and everything in between. However, at the same time, these scenarios can bring stress, pain, and sadness into our lives. Instead of allowing your mind take control, it is time you take control. Look around, count your blessings, and immerse yourself in your life now. Live for today, look at all of your accomplishments and failures. At the end of the day, do what brings you joy and happiness.

Question: How will you make yourself happy?

6 Tips to Keep Your Work-life in Balance

Have you ever felt that you are overwhelmed by the amount of work that you need to get done? Do you feel that it becomes a strenuous effort for you to even show up at work? If you answered yes to both questions, it seems you are having a work-life imbalance issue.  Unfortunately, it is quite easy in this day an age for you to get burned out through stress and anxiety. Luckily for you, there are many ways for you to bring back your work-life balance. Just check out these helpful tips.

Adhere to your schedule

For many people working involves working at home. Now, if you have never worked at home, then you really don’t understand that many of us work 24/7. We are always checking email, making phone calls, writing, and trying to secure new clients. I am not saying that those you that do not work from home don’t work 24/7, but you are not in the same environment like us. You get to transition to your home life and leave your work life behind for the day.

However, making sure that you work within your work schedule can be the best thing you do. If you are always extending your work, this is a first time that there is an imbalance. When working longer you are exposing yourself to more stress, which can potentially be harmful to you. That is why it is best to work a solid eight hours. Of course, you can always work less, if you wish, but the maximum should be eight hours. Once the work time is over, leave work behind. This is your time to relax and do what pleases you.

Put some down time in your schedule

How many of us have free time? Probably not many of us these days. We are so caught up in our work and I bet most of us work 24/7, which is not good for us at all. Next time you plan your week plan a day off. I mean a real day off, which means spending time with your family and/or children, go out and see the world. During this free day you should not do anything that has to do with work. Work will always be there the next day, so don’t worry about the emails, phone calls, and all the other things racing in your head because this is your day and you will go out and enjoy it to the fullest.

Don’t fall in love with adrenaline

We all know that adrenaline will keep your behind moving, but the extra energy will always tempt you into working longer. If you remember from earlier, working longer equals stress. We do not need the stress, correct? Aren’t we trying to get rid of all the stress that work and life can cause?

This is why you should keep your adrenaline levels stable because if not it can lead to depression, inability to relax, and even sleeping problems. Basically, in order for you to have a good work-life balance you need to keep your adrenaline levels in check.

Ask for other’s help

It is 100% ok to ask for others help. Sometimes we think we can handle so much, but in reality we cannot. We freak out once we see how much we really have to do. Asking for help can ease the tension. It will benefit you tremendously and you will see the results almost instantly.

Just say NO

As freelancers and independent contractors, we all know that it is either feast or famine. There is never a perfect balance. When the feast time comes along we tend to take everything that we can get because we know the famine time will be right around the corner.

Did you know it is okay to decline? I don’t mean to deny every job, but decline the jobs that don’t interest you, pay too little, stressful jobs, and ones that you believe will take a long time to complete.

Keep your Smartphone away

Whether you work from home or work in an office, we are all attached to our Smartphones. Don’t our employers know that we have lives to live too? Do they understand that we are not workaholics? The short answer is no. If they have important news they will email each and every one of us to tell us! Half the time we really do not care about this news because it usually doesn’t pertain to us. This is why once you get off of work don’t look at your work email. Forget about work because work will always be there in the morning. Once you step foot out of the door tell yourself that you are officially off of work and you will see it tomorrow.

3 Steps to a New You

New Year, new changes, right? For most, the New Year will come with taking out the bad and bringing in the good. For those of you that wants to begin the year with a new you, do you know how? Here are three easy things you can do this very moment to prepare yourself for a new you in 2014!

Question

You have probably been around toddlers and young children who question every single thing you do or say, right? Many of us can’t wait until they stop questioning us about every little thing; I am sorry to tell you this, but questioning everything is the first step to a new you. I don’t mean go around and ask your significant other, “Why is the sky blue?” I mean questioning your life, how you are living it, where you are going with it.

Examples:

Will going to college really help me with what I really want to do in life?

Why am I so unhappy with my job?

What can I do to make my life more exciting?

De-clutter

Next step to achieving a new you is, de-cluttering. I can bet about 80% of you reading this is surrounded by clutter and I bet 95% of you are looking at the clutter on your desk.

Clutter equals bad. The more cluttered you are, the harder it will be for you to get out of your current state and into a new one. My goal for you is to take a look around at all your clutter (ladies that means beyond your desk!) and ask yourself can you live without it? Do you absolutely need it? When was the last time you even used it? If it is still in the original packing, then put it in your “get rid of ASAP box.”

Passionate

We all have things that we are passionate about. I don’t want to hear that you are not passionate about anything because I know you are. Now take out a piece of paper or open up a word document and jot down everything that you are passionate about. I don’t care how big or little your list is just write everything down.

Now take a look through your list and imagine what you could do with each of your passions you wrote down. Again, this will be different for everyone, but you catch my drift. Now write yet another list down of what you will do with your passions.

Now that you are questioning your life, you are clear of all clutter, and you have a list of what you truly want to do; I dare you to start working on your list of passions. Take time out of your busy schedule to do something you enjoy. You deserve this time and owe it to yourself.  You will soon see your mood change within the first couple of days.
